Eyes on Life in South America

Dance the Night Away in Latin America

By Terry Sebastian - 9 months ago

Dancing brings out joy; while in South America be prepared to dance the night away.

There is so much dancing in South America these days that it’s making my head spin.

And I’m not talking about all the Political dancing either.

When I arrived in Peru they told me be prepared to dance, because “that’s what we do here in Latin America.”

It’s not uncommon to dance till the sun comes up, to the pounding of endless Cumbia or Flamenco tunes that will soothe your soul as you get lost in the rhythm.

I have seen and photographed the way of life in Peru, a spectacular clash of old world and new, and the spirit I have witnessed in Peru alone is astounding. If this is any indication of the raw energy in other countries in the Americas, prepare for more bold changes especially with the progression on good or at least, better governance.

But I hope that Latin America doesn’t lose its remarkable liveliness in the process.

I know I will be returning to South America someday to photograph the disappearing cultures and the diverse ecosystems found in a place of political tensions, extreme growth, and the control of vast natural resources.

Peru was such an amazing journey of discovery, highly recommended for the adventurous. And if you don’t like to dance I promise you, you will love it by the time you leave, and you’ll dance in and to places you never thought possible. (A few pounds lighter nonetheless)

So dance the night away in South America and you will look at the world in a completely new light.

A woman's old and worn out hands: A lifetime of hardship.

The old world clashes with the new in Peru.

In South America people work the land that they love.
